60th wedding anniversary cake

January 16, 2012

this weekend past my lovely future-grand-parents-in-law celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.  such a special occasion requires a special cake, so i tried my hand at “proper” cake decorating.  i used my favourite annabel langbein ultimate chocolate cake recipe (the recipe is available online here – but note the online version differs to the free range cook version and i prefer that one) to create a three-high chocolate cake (this recipe makes heaps, so one lot is enough for a taller-than-average cake), sandwiched together with strawberry jam and topped with rose style vanilla buttercream using my wilton 1M tip.  the icing style was inspired by a) the fact that this special couple used to grow roses, and b) the i am baker rose cake tutorial. congratulations cath and lex x
